Grammar in focus · expressing opinions

Start an opinion with « je pense que », « à mon avis » or « selon moi », followed by the indicative: « je pense que c'est utile ». Justify it with « parce que » (most common) or the slightly more formal « car », which never starts a sentence: « car ça aide à réviser ».

Write it yourself

Write your opinion (4–5 sentences) on whether teenagers should have a smartphone, with at least two reasons using parce que and car.

Bien ! Open with « Selon moi… », then justify: « parce que ça permet de rester en contact ». Avoid stacking « parce que » twice in a row — try « car » for variety.
