To complain politely yet firmly, combine the conditional (« je voudrais », « je préférerais ») with clear facts in the passé composé/plus-que-parfait (« l'excursion a été annulée », « j'avais payé »). « ce n'est pas normal » expresses dissatisfaction without being aggressive.
