The conditional softens requests and makes them formal: « pourriez-vous… », « serait-il envisageable… », « je me permettrais de… ». Nominalisation (turning verbs into nouns) raises register: « mettre en œuvre » → « la mise en œuvre », « augmenter » → « une augmentation ».
