To compare two things, add « -er » to the adjective and use « als » for 'than': klein → kleiner (smaller), ruhig → ruhiger (quieter), schön → schöner (nicer). « Mein Viertel ist ruhiger als dein Viertel. » Short adjectives with a/o/u often add an umlaut: groß → größer, alt → älter, nah → näher. Three common irregulars: gut → besser (better), viel → mehr (more), hoch → höher (higher). For 'as … as' (equal) use « so … wie »: « Mein Viertel ist so grün wie ein Park. »
