Grammar in focus · unreal conditionals

An unreal (hypothetical) conditional has a 'wenn' clause in the Konjunktiv II and a main clause usually with 'würde': 'Wenn ich Zeit hätte, würde ich mehr reisen.' The verb is final in the 'wenn' clause; the main clause begins with the verb because the 'wenn' clause fills first position. For advice, 'An deiner Stelle würde ich…' is very natural: 'An deiner Stelle würde ich den Job annehmen.'

Gut! Keep verb-final in the 'wenn' clause and start the main clause with the verb: « Wenn ich du wäre, würde ich es ausprobieren. » Mix in a 'könnte' for softness.
