Grammar in focus · je … desto & folglich

The proportional pair je … desto links two scaling quantities. The je-clause is subordinate (verb at the end) and the desto-clause is a main clause with the verb in position two: « Je mehr man übt, desto besser wird man. » Both contain a comparative. folglich (consequently) is a consequential adverb: it sits in position one and the verb follows: « Die Nachfrage steigt; folglich steigen die Preise. »

Write it yourself

Write 4–5 sentences on how technology is changing your field. Use one je … desto construction and the connector folglich.

Tip for this task
Gut! Remember both halves of je … desto need a comparative: « Je mehr Daten gesammelt werden, desto größer wird die Verantwortung. » Keep folglich for genuine consequences, not mere additions.
