For most means of transport Italian uses in: in treno, in autobus, in macchina, in aereo, in bici, in metropolitana. The exception is on foot: a piedi. To say where you are going use andare + a/in: vado a Roma, vado in Italia, vado al lavoro. Remember a + il = al, in + il = nel.
