Use c'è (there is) with a singular noun and ci sono (there are) with a plural: c'è una cucina, ci sono due camere. To say where things are, use prepositions: su (on), sotto (under), accanto a (next to), davanti a (in front of), dietro (behind). Contractions apply: accanto al divano (a + il), sul tavolo (su + il).
