Grammar in focus · cause & consequence connectors

To link cause and effect in formal register: « a causa di » + noun (because of), « poiché / dato che » + clause (since), « di conseguenza / pertanto / quindi » (consequently). Note the nuance: « a causa di » is usually negative, « grazie a » is positive. Example: « A causa della crisi, molti hanno perso il lavoro; di conseguenza, i consumi sono calati ».

Bene! Don't overuse « perché »: in formal writing prefer « poiché » or « dato che » at the start of a clause. Model: « Poiché le competenze digitali sono sempre più richieste, la riqualificazione è diventata una priorità ».
