Gradirei discutere il preventivo: la cifra ci sembra un po' elevata. 🔊I'd like to discuss the quote: the figure seems a little high to us.
La capisco. Potremmo rivedere i costi a fronte di una collaborazione più lunga. 🔊I understand. We could review the costs in exchange for a longer collaboration.
Sarebbe possibile anticipare la consegna? La scadenza è per noi cruciale. 🔊Would it be possible to bring forward delivery? The deadline is crucial for us.
Vorrei venirle incontro; le proporrei una controproposta entro domani. 🔊I'd like to meet you halfway; I'd put a counter-offer to you by tomorrow.
La presa in carico del progetto a condizioni vantaggiose faciliterebbe l'accordo. 🔊Handling the project on favourable terms would make the agreement easier.
Direi che siamo sulla buona strada per trovare un'intesa. 🔊I'd say we're on the right track to reaching an understanding.
Grammar in focus · conditional of politeness & nominalisation

The condizionale softens requests and makes register formal: « vorrei » (I'd like) vs « voglio », « gradirei », « potrebbe », « sarebbe possibile ». Nominalisation turns verbs into nouns for a denser, more formal style: « consegnare » → « la consegna », « prendere in carico » → « la presa in carico », « scadere » → « la scadenza ». Compare « quando consegnerete? » with « la data di consegna ».

Write it yourself

Write a polite negotiation message (4–5 sentences) proposing a counter-offer, using the conditional twice and one nominalisation.

Tip for this task
Bene! In professional Italian, « vorrei » and « gradirei » sound far warmer than the indicative. Model: « Gradiremmo discutere il preventivo e proporre una controproposta a condizioni più vantaggiose ».
