« Affinché » and « perché » (when it means « so that ») introduce purpose and always take the congiuntivo: « affinché imparino » (so that they learn), « perché si impegnino » (so that they apply themselves). Note: « perché » + indicative = cause (because); « perché » + subjunctive = purpose (so that). Subject must differ from the main clause, otherwise use « per » + infinitive: « studio per imparare ».
Argue for or against grades in schools (4–5 sentences), using « affinché » + subjunctive once.
