Use 'jest' for one thing and 'są' for several: « W kuchni jest stół. » / « W salonie są dwa okna. » To say 'in (a room)' use the locative case after 'w': 'kuchnia → w kuchni', 'sypialnia → w sypialni', 'salon → w salonie'. The noun ending changes, so listen for it.
