Polish narration in the past relies on aspect. The imperfective describes a background, a habit, or an ongoing process: « Codziennie czytałam książki » (I read books every day). The perfective describes a single, completed event with a result: « Pewnego dnia zgubiłam się » (One day I got lost). Notice the prefixes/stem changes: czytałam (imperf.) → przeczytałam (perf.); robiłem → zrobiłem. A typical story sets the scene with the imperfective and then drops a perfective verb for the key event: « Bawiłam się w lesie, kiedy nagle usłyszałam dziwny dźwięk ».
Write 4–5 sentences about a memory from your childhood. Set the scene, then tell one thing that happened.
