Grammar in focus · advice, necessity and worth

« powinien » (should) agrees with the subject's gender and number: powinienem/powinnam (I), powinieneś/powinnaś (you), powinien/powinna (he/she), powinniśmy/powinnyśmy (we). It is followed by an infinitive: « Powinnaś odpocząć. » « musieć » (must) conjugates normally and also takes an infinitive: « Musisz iść do lekarza. » Two impersonal forms take a bare infinitive: « trzeba » (one must / it is necessary) — « Trzeba ćwiczyć », and « warto » (it is worth) — « Warto spróbować. » These do not change for person: « Warto / trzeba » + infinitive. Strength ranges from advice (powinieneś, warto) to obligation (musisz, trzeba).
