Grammar in focus · imiesłów przysłówkowy współczesny (-ąc)

The contemporaneous adverbial participle (-ąc) describes an action happening AT THE SAME TIME as the main verb, with the SAME subject. Form it from the imperfective verb: rosnąć → rosnąc, postępować → postępując, słuchać → słuchając. Example: « Automatyzacja, postępując szybko, zmienia rynek. » (Automation, advancing fast, changes the market.) « Czytając raport, zauważył błąd. » (Reading the report, he noticed an error.) Both clauses must share one subject — otherwise the sentence is wrong.

Dobrze! Use -ąc only when both actions share the subject and overlap in time. Model: « Inwestując w naukę, pracownicy chronią swoją przyszłość. » If the subjects differ, switch to a normal clause with gdy/kiedy instead of the participle.
