Grammar in focus · el verbo doler

Doler works like gustar: the verb agrees with the body part, and an indirect pronoun (me, te, le, nos, os, les) shows who feels the pain. One body part → me duele: 'Me duele la cabeza.' More than one → me duelen: 'Me duelen las piernas.' Note that Spanish uses the definite article (la, los), not 'my': not 'me duele mi cabeza' but 'me duele la cabeza'. To describe a state, use tener: 'tengo fiebre', 'tengo tos', or estar: 'estoy resfriado / resfriada'.
