To say your profession, use ser + the job WITHOUT an article: 'Soy profesor', 'Es médica', 'Somos estudiantes' — never 'soy un profesor' in neutral statements. The job agrees in gender: profesor / profesora, enfermero / enfermera. Some don't change form, just the article: el / la dentista, el / la periodista. To say where you work, use trabajar en: 'Trabajo en una empresa', 'Trabaja en un hospital.' To ask about someone's job: '¿A qué te dedicas?' or '¿En qué trabajas?'
