Grammar in focus · contrast connectors

« Sin embargo » and « no obstante » mean 'however / nevertheless' and usually begin a sentence, followed by a comma — « Es caro. Sin embargo, vale la pena. » « En cambio » contrasts two subjects or situations — « Mi hermano es tímido; yo, en cambio, soy muy hablador. » To balance two sides use « por un lado… por otro (lado). » To disagree politely, soften with « Entiendo lo que dices, pero… » rather than a blunt « No ».

Write it yourself

Write a short debate reply (4–5 sentences) where you partly agree and then introduce a counterpoint with sin embargo or en cambio.

Tip for this task
« ¡Bien! » Your contrast flows well. Avoid stacking too many connectors; one strong contrast per idea is enough. Example: « Estoy de acuerdo en que es práctico; sin embargo, me preocupa el precio. »

Quick check

An adaptive quiz confirms you've got it and schedules the right words for review.
