« Sin embargo » and « no obstante » mean 'however / nevertheless' and usually begin a sentence, followed by a comma — « Es caro. Sin embargo, vale la pena. » « En cambio » contrasts two subjects or situations — « Mi hermano es tímido; yo, en cambio, soy muy hablador. » To balance two sides use « por un lado… por otro (lado). » To disagree politely, soften with « Entiendo lo que dices, pero… » rather than a blunt « No ».
