Grammar in focus · conditional sentences (si-clauses)

Real / likely conditions use the present + future: « Si estudias, aprobarás » (if you study, you'll pass). Hypothetical / unlikely conditions use the imperfect subjunctive + conditional: « Si tuviera dinero, viajaría por el mundo » (if I had money — but I don't — I'd travel). Common imperfect-subjunctive forms: « tuviera, fuera, pudiera, hiciera, supiera. » For advice, « Yo que tú… » and « En tu lugar… » are followed by the conditional — « Yo que tú no diría nada. »

Write it yourself

Write 4–5 sentences giving advice to a friend who is hesitating about a big decision, using a hypothetical si-clause and yo que tú.

Tip for this task
« ¡Bien! » Your hypothetical clause is well formed. Keep the pairing strict: si + imperfecto de subjuntivo with the conditional, never two conditionals. Example: « Si yo fuera tú, hablaría con el jefe antes de decidir. »
