When two different subjects are involved, purpose clauses take the subjunctive: « Reformamos el sistema para que los alumnos aprendan mejor » (we reform / they learn). Other purpose conjunctions behaving the same way: « a fin de que », « con el objetivo de que », « de modo que » (when expressing intention). If the subject is the same, use the infinitive instead: « Estudio para aprobar » (not « para que apruebe »). Tense agreement: present main verb → present subjunctive; past main verb → imperfect subjunctive (« Lo hice para que entendieras »).
