This policy applies specifically to children under the age of 13, and supplements our main Privacy Policy. It reflects our obligations under the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and we apply the same standard of protection to children everywhere in the world, not only in the United States.
Parental consent comes first
A child under 13 cannot create a Vidaara account on their own. We require verifiable parental consent from a parent or legal guardian first, collected through our Parent Consent page. Until that consent is given, the account is not activated and no learning data is collected. Where a school provides consent on behalf of parents for classroom use, we rely on that authorisation as permitted under COPPA and FERPA.
What we collect from a child
We practise data minimisation — we collect only what the service genuinely needs:
- A first name or nickname (we do not require a surname)
- Grade level, so we show age-appropriate content
- Learning activity — lessons watched, practice attempted, and progress
We do not require a child's home address, phone number, or photographs. The parent's email is used for consent and account communications — not the child's.
What we never do with children's data
- We never show advertising to children.
- We never sell, rent or trade a child's personal information.
- We never use a child's data to build a marketing or advertising profile.
- We never condition a child's participation on disclosing more information than is reasonably necessary.
- We never knowingly let third parties collect a child's personal information through Vidaara for their own purposes.
Parent rights and controls
As a parent or guardian, you can at any time:
- Review the personal information we hold about your child.
- Request deletion of your child's information via our Data Deletion page.
- Refuse further collection by withdrawing consent and closing the account.
- Monitor your child's learning through the Parent Dashboard.
