Vidaara is a nonprofit. We are not in the business of selling data — we are in the business of teaching. We collect the minimum information needed to run your learning account, we never sell it, we never show advertising, and we give you real tools to see, export and delete your data. This policy explains the details and applies to everyone who uses vidaara.org.
What information we collect
We collect three kinds of information:
- Information you give us. When you create an account: a name or nickname, email address, role (student, parent or teacher), and grade level. Optionally, an avatar and language preference.
- Learning activity. Which lessons you watch, practice you attempt, your scores, progress, streaks and bookmarks. This is what powers your dashboard and progress tracking.
- Technical information. Basic device and browser information, and — only with your consent — analytics about how the site is used so we can improve it. See our Cookie Policy.
How we use your information
We use your information only to provide and improve the service: to save your progress across devices, personalise the content you see, keep your account secure, respond to your support requests, and understand (in aggregate) what's working so we can make Vidaara better. We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not make automated decisions that have legal effects on you.
Children's data
Protecting children is a priority, not an afterthought. If a learner is under 13, we require verifiable parental consent before creating their account, in line with the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and we extend similar protections to children worldwide. The full detail is in our dedicated Children's Privacy Policy, and parents can review or delete a child's data at any time.
Who we share information with
We share personal information only in limited cases: with service providers who help us run Vidaara (such as hosting and email delivery) under strict contracts that forbid using your data for their own purposes; with a teacher or school where a student has joined that teacher's class; and where legally required, such as a valid court order. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information to anyone.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights over your data under laws including the EU/UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP). These generally include the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to processing, and port it elsewhere. We honour these rights for all users regardless of location. To exercise them, visit our Data Deletion page or email contact@vidaara.org. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right.
| Right | What it means | How |
|---|---|---|
| Access | Get a copy of your data | Email contact@vidaara.org |
| Erasure | Delete your data | Data Deletion page |
| Correction | Fix inaccurate data | Account settings |
| Portability | Export your data | Email contact@vidaara.org |
How we protect your information
We use encryption in transit (HTTPS), restrict access to personal data to staff who need it, and review our security practices regularly. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable, industry-standard steps to protect your information and will notify affected users and regulators as required if a breach ever occurs.
Data retention
We keep your information only as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we must retain limited records to comply with the law.
International transfers
Vidaara serves learners globally, so your data may be processed in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for these transfers.
Contact us
Questions about your privacy, or want to exercise a right? Email our privacy team at contact@vidaara.org, or write to the Udgam Welfare Foundation via our contact page. If you're in the EU/UK and unsatisfied with our response, you may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
We may update this policy as Vidaara evolves or laws change. We'll post the new date at the top and, for significant changes, notify you by email or an in-app notice.
