Hi! I'm Vidi. Let's learn Measurement: Mass & Capacity together — read with me, then play the games to win a ⭐!

🔵Mass — Grams & Kilograms

Mass tells how heavy something is. We measure it in grams (g) and kilograms (kg).

  • A small thing (a chocolate) is measured in grams.
  • A heavy thing (a school bag, a watermelon) is measured in kilograms.
  • 1 kg = 1000 g

We weigh things on a balance or a weighing scale.

1 kg = 1000 gheavy things → kg, light things → g
👀 See a worked example

Which unit weighs a watermelon — grams or kilograms?

Kilograms — a watermelon is heavy.

How many grams in 2 kg?

2 × 1000 = 2000 g.

🤖 Vidi's Key Points

  • Mass is how heavy something is, measured in grams (g) and kilograms (kg).
  • 1 kg = 1000 g.
  • Use grams for light things, kilograms for heavy things.

🟢Capacity — Millilitres & Litres

Capacity tells how much liquid a container can hold. We measure it in millilitres (ml) and litres (L).

  • A spoon or a glass holds a few millilitres.
  • A bottle or a bucket holds litres.
  • 1 litre = 1000 ml
1 litre = 1000 mlbig containers → litres, small → millilitres
👀 See a worked example

Which holds more — a bucket or a cup?

A bucket holds much more (litres) than a cup.

How many ml in 2 litres?

2 × 1000 = 2000 ml.

🤖 Vidi's Key Points

  • Capacity is how much a container holds, measured in ml and litres.
  • 1 litre = 1000 ml.
  • Use ml for small amounts, litres for big amounts.
