🔵Rupees, Paise & Money as Decimals
100 paise = ₹1. We write money using a decimal point: ₹5 and 50 paise is written ₹5.50. The digits after the point are the paise.
To add or subtract money, line up the decimal points (rupees with rupees, paise with paise) and calculate as usual.
👀 See a worked example
Add ₹12.50 + ₹7.25.
Line up the points: 12.50 + 7.25 = ₹19.75.
How many paise is ₹2.75?
₹2 = 200 paise, + 75 = 275 paise.
🤖 Vidi's Key Points
- 100 paise = ₹1; money is written with a decimal point (₹5.50).
- The digits after the point are paise.

🟢Making Change & Money Problems
To find change, subtract the cost from the money given. For multi-step problems, work out the total cost first, then the change.
Example: a book costs ₹85 and a pen ₹15. You pay with ₹200. Total = ₹100, so change = 200 − 100 = ₹100.
👀 See a worked example
You buy items for ₹128 and pay ₹200. Change?
200 − 128 = ₹72.
3 notebooks cost ₹40 each. Total cost?
40 × 3 = ₹120.
🤖 Vidi's Key Points
- Change = money given − total cost.
- For multi-step problems, find the total cost first.
- Multiply for 'each' and add for 'total'.
