Hi! I'm Vidi. Let's learn Perimeter & Area together — read with me, then play the games to win a ⭐!

🔵Perimeter

Perimeter is the total distance around the edge of a shape. Add the lengths of all the sides.

  • Rectangle: P = 2 × (length + width).
  • Square: P = 4 × side.

Perimeter is measured in units of length (cm, m).

5 cm3 cmP = 2 × (5 + 3) = 16 cm
👀 See a worked example

Find the perimeter of a 5 cm × 3 cm rectangle.

2 × (5 + 3) = 16 cm.

Find the perimeter of a square with side 6 cm.

4 × 6 = 24 cm.

🤖 Vidi's Key Points

  • Perimeter = distance around a shape; add all sides.
  • Rectangle: 2 × (length + width). Square: 4 × side.
  • Perimeter is measured in length units (cm, m).

🟢Area

Area is the amount of surface a shape covers, measured in square units (cm², m²).

  • Rectangle: A = length × width.
  • Square: A = side × side.

For a composite shape, split it into rectangles, find each area, and add them.

A = 4 × 3 = 12 squares
👀 See a worked example

Find the area of a 5 cm × 3 cm rectangle.

5 × 3 = 15 cm².

Find the area of a square with side 4 cm.

4 × 4 = 16 cm².

🤖 Vidi's Key Points

  • Area = surface covered, in square units (cm², m²).
  • Rectangle: length × width. Square: side × side.
  • Composite shapes: split into rectangles and add the areas.
