🌱Kinds of Weather

💭
Vidi wonders: When you wake up, you look outside. What is the weather like today?

Weather is what the air and sky are like outside right now. It can change from day to day:

  • ☀️ Sunny — bright and warm.
  • 🌧️ Rainy — water falls from the clouds.
  • ☁️ Cloudy — grey clouds cover the sun.
  • 💨 Windy — the air moves and pushes things around.
  • ❄️ Snowy — soft white snow falls (in very cold places).

🤔 Vidi's Wonder Questions

Can the weather change in one day?

Yes! A morning can be sunny and the afternoon cloudy or rainy. That is why we check the weather before going out.

Why is there no snow where I live?

Snow only falls in very cold places or high mountains. In warm places like most of India, rain falls instead of snow.

🤖 Vidi's Key Points

  • Weather is what the sky and air are like outside.
  • Kinds of weather: sunny, rainy, cloudy, windy, snowy.
  • Weather can change from day to day.

🐝The Sky by Day and Night

💭
Vidi wonders: The Sun lights up the day. What lights up the night sky?

The sky looks very different in the day and at night:

  • ☀️ In the day, we see the bright Sun. The sky is light and blue.
  • 🌙 At night, we see the Moon and twinkling stars. The sky is dark.

The Sun gives us light and warmth. We must never look straight at the Sun — it is too bright for our eyes!

🤔 Vidi's Wonder Questions

Where does the Sun go at night?

The Sun does not really go away! Our Earth slowly spins, so our side turns away from the Sun. That is when it becomes night for us.

Why do stars only come out at night?

Stars are always there! But in the day the Sun is so bright that we cannot see them. When the sky goes dark, the stars appear.

🤖 Vidi's Key Points

  • Day sky: the bright Sun, light and blue.
  • Night sky: the Moon and stars, dark.
  • Never look straight at the Sun.

☀️Dressing for the Weather

💭
Vidi wonders: Would you wear a warm woolly coat on a hot sunny day? Why not?

We choose our clothes to match the weather so we stay comfy and safe:

  • ☀️ Sunny — light clothes, a sun hat and a water bottle.
  • 🌧️ Rainy — a raincoat and an umbrella to stay dry.
  • ❄️ Cold — a warm sweater, gloves and a cap.

🤔 Vidi's Wonder Questions

Why do we wear light clothes when it is hot?

Light, loose clothes help our body stay cool and let the heat escape. Heavy clothes would trap the heat and make us too hot.

Why carry an umbrella on a cloudy day?

Grey clouds full of water often mean rain is coming. Carrying an umbrella keeps you ready and dry if it starts to rain.

🤖 Vidi's Key Points

  • We dress to match the weather.
  • Sunny → light clothes + hat; Rainy → raincoat + umbrella.
  • Cold → warm sweater, gloves and cap.

💧Where Does Rain Come From?

💭
Vidi wonders: Rain falls from the clouds — but how did the water get up there?

Rain comes from a wonderful journey that water makes, again and again. It is called the water cycle:

  • ☀️ The Sun warms the water in seas, rivers and lakes.
  • 💨 The warm water rises up into the air as tiny invisible drops (vapour).
  • ☁️ High up it cools and gathers into clouds.
  • 🌧️ When the clouds are full and heavy, the water falls back down as rain.

🤔 Vidi's Wonder Questions

Does the same water get used again and again?

Yes! The water that falls as rain flows back to the rivers and seas, then rises again to make new clouds. It is a never-ending cycle.

Why do clouds look white and grey?

Clouds are made of tiny water drops. Thin clouds look white, but when they fill up with lots of water they look dark grey — and that means rain is near!

🤖 Vidi's Key Points

  • Rain comes from the water cycle.
  • Sun warms water → it rises → clouds form → rain falls.
  • The same water is used again and again.

🍃The Seasons

💭
Vidi wonders: Some months are hot, some are cold, and some are full of rain. These are the seasons!

A season is a time of year with its own kind of weather. In India we mainly have three big seasons:

  • ☀️ Summer — hot and sunny. We eat ice cream and drink lots of water.
  • 🌧️ Monsoon (Rainy) — lots of rain. Everything turns green.
  • ❄️ Winter — cool and cold. We wear warm clothes.
☀️Summer🌧️Monsoon❄️WinterThe seasons

🤔 Vidi's Wonder Questions

Why do we have different seasons?

As the Earth travels around the Sun through the year, different times bring different weather — giving us hot, rainy and cold seasons.

Why do farmers love the monsoon?

The monsoon rain fills the rivers and waters the fields, helping crops like rice grow. No rain would mean less food, so farmers welcome the monsoon!

🤖 Vidi's Key Points

  • A season is a time of year with its own weather.
  • India's main seasons: summer, monsoon (rainy), winter.
  • Seasons happen as Earth travels around the Sun.

🧪 Try it at Home!

Be a Weather Watcher for a whole week and make your own weather chart! 📅

🧺 You will need

  • A sheet of paper and crayons or pencils
  • A window to look out of

👣 Steps

  1. Draw a chart with a box for each day of the week.
  2. Each morning, look outside at the weather.
  3. Draw a little picture in that day's box — ☀️ sun, ☁️ cloud, 🌧️ rain or 💨 wind.
  4. At the end of the week, count how many sunny, rainy and cloudy days you had.
  5. Which kind of weather happened the most?
👀 Watch for: Over the week you will see the weather change. You are doing exactly what real weather scientists do — they are called meteorologists!
🛡️ Grown-up helper: Look at the weather from inside or from a safe, dry spot. Never go out alone in a storm or heavy rain.
