Using combined gas law:

$$\frac{P_1 V_1}{T_1} = \frac{P_2 V_2}{T_2}$$

$$P_2 = P_1 \times \frac{V_1}{V_2} \times \frac{T_2}{T_1} = 1 \times \frac{2.0}{0.5} \times \frac{400}{300} = 4 \times \frac{4}{3}$$

$$P_2 = \frac{16}{3} \approx 5.33 atm$$

This is exactly the kind of step-by-step I needed. Respect.

Quick doubt: would this method still work if the numbers were not so clean?

Brilliant explanation, the substitution step is what I kept missing.

Plotting it roughly also helps you sanity-check the sign.
