An ideal diatomic gas ($\gamma = 1.4$) is compressed adiabatically to half its volume. If initial pressure is $P_0$, find the final pressure.

For adiabatic process: $PV^\gamma = const$

$$P_0 V^\gamma = P_f \left(\frac{V}{2}\right)^\gamma$$

$$P_f = P_0 \times 2^\gamma = P_0 \times 2^{1.4}$$

$$P_f = P_0 \times 2.639 \approx 2.64\, P_0$$
