If $a,b,c,d>0$ with $a+b+c+d=2$, then $M=(a+b)(c+d)$ satisfies

(a) $0\le M\le1$
(b) $1\le M\le2$
(c) $2\le M\le3$

Correct answer: (a) $0\le M\le1$

With $s=a+b$, $M=s(2-s)\le1$ (max at $s=1$) and $M>0$, so $0\le M\le1$.
