[JEE Advanced 1985] if z 1 a ib z 2 c id with z 1 z 2

VAVidaara Admin Asked 2d ago 0 views 1 answer

If $z_1=a+ib,\ z_2=c+id$ with $|z_1|=|z_2|=1$ and $\operatorname{Re}(z_1\bar z_2)=0$, then $w_1=a+ic,\ w_2=b+id$ satisfy

(a) $|w_1|=1$
(b) $|w_2|=1$
(c) $\operatorname{Re}(w_1\bar w_2)=0$
(d) none of these

Correct answer: (a) $|w_1|=1$

The condition forces $z_2$ to be $z_1$ rotated by $\pm90^\circ$; then $|w_1|=|w_2|=1$ and $\operatorname{Re}(w_1\bar w_2)=0$ all hold.
