What is the difference between mitosis and meiosis? When does each occur?

I always confuse these two for NEET preparation. I know mitosis produces two cells and meiosis produces four but I cannot remember the key differences in the process itself.

Mitosis: produces 2 daughter cells, each with the SAME number of chromosomes as the parent (diploid = 2n). Occurs in somatic (body) cells for growth and repair. No crossing over. Meiosis: produces 4 daughter cells, each with HALF the chromosomes (haploid = n). Occurs only in reproductive organs to form gametes (sperm and eggs). Includes crossing over in Prophase I (source of genetic variation). Key memory trick: Mitosis = Maintenance (keeps chromosome number same). Meiosis = Making gametes. For NEET, know all phases: Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase (same for both, but meiosis has I and II rounds).
