Lesson 3 of 11 · 7 min

Long and short vowels

Vowels (a, e, i, o, u) can make a short sound or a long sound. Short 'a' is in cat. Long 'a' says its own name, as in cake. A silent 'e' at the end often makes the vowel say its name: hathate.

cat → cake
