IELTS Writing practice tests — FAQs
What is the format of the IELTS Academic Writing test?
Two tasks in 60 minutes: Task 1 asks you to describe a graph, chart, table, process or map in at least 150 words, and Task 2 is an essay of at least 250 words. Task 2 counts roughly double, so plan about 20 and 40 minutes respectively.
Are these IELTS Writing practice tests free?
Yes — all 30 tests are free, each with an original Task 1 visual, a Band 7–9 Task 2 essay question, a 60-minute timer and an instant criteria-based band estimate.
What Task 1 types do these tests cover?
Line graphs, bar charts, pie charts, tables, process diagrams, map comparisons and two-chart combinations — the full range that appears in the real Academic test.
How is IELTS Writing marked?
Examiners score four criteria equally: Task Achievement/Response, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. Each test here explains what a Band 8–9 answer must show on all four, plus the traps specific to that test.
