Indian money is counted in rupees (₹) and paise. We have coins of ₹1, ₹2, ₹5 and ₹10 and notes of ₹10, ₹20, ₹50, ₹100, ₹200, ₹500.
One rupee equals 100 paise, so ₹1 = 100 paise. To change rupees to paise, multiply by 100 (₹3 = 300 paise); to change paise to rupees, divide by 100 (500 paise = ₹5).
Example 1: How many paise are there in ₹2?
₹2 = 2 × 100 = 200 paise.
Example 2: Change 500 paise into rupees.
500 ÷ 100 = ₹5.
Quick recap
₹1 = 100 paise.
Rupees to paise: multiply by 100. Paise to rupees: divide by 100.

Adding & Subtracting Money
We add and subtract money just like ordinary numbers, keeping the ₹ sign. To find a total bill, add the prices. To find the change, subtract the bill from the money given.
Example 1: Add ₹125 + ₹260.
125 + 260 = ₹385.
Example 2: Subtract ₹500 − ₹275.
500 − 275 = ₹225.
Quick recap
Add prices to get the total bill.
Change = money given − total bill.

Shopping & Change
While shopping we add the prices of all items for the bill, then subtract from the money we pay to find the change. Sometimes we check whether the money is enough.
Example 1: A book costs ₹85 and a pen ₹40. You pay ₹200. What change do you get?
Bill = 85 + 40 = ₹125; change = 200 − 125 = ₹75.
Example 2: Pens cost ₹12 each. How much for 5 pens?
5 × 12 = ₹60.
Quick recap
Bill = sum of item prices.
Change = amount paid − bill.
