Disruptive technologies are new technologies that change how we live and work — sometimes replacing older ways entirely. This chapter surveys the big ones (ICSE project topic) plus the cyber-safety habits that keep you secure online.

1Cyber hygiene & cyber laws

Cyber hygiene is the set of habits that keep you safe online — like brushing your teeth, but for your digital life:

  • Use strong, unique passwords and two-factor authentication.
  • Keep software updated; use trusted antivirus.
  • Don't click suspicious links or attachments (phishing).
  • Think before you share personal information.

Cyber laws are the rules that govern online behaviour and punish cybercrime (hacking, identity theft, online fraud). In India, the main law is the Information Technology (IT) Act.

A simple rule: treat your password like a toothbrush — don't share it, and change it regularly.
