🔵Repeating & Growing Patterns
A pattern is something that repeats in a rule. Two common kinds:
- Repeating pattern — the same group repeats, like 🔵🔴🔵🔴…
- Growing pattern — it gets bigger by the same amount each time, like 2, 4, 6, 8…
To continue a pattern, find the rule (what repeats or what is added) and apply it.
👀 See a worked example
What comes next: 🔺🔵🔺🔵🔺 __ ?
The rule is 🔺🔵 repeating, so next is 🔵.
Continue: 5, 10, 15, 20, __
The rule is +5 each time, so next is 25.
🤖 Vidi's Key Points
- A repeating pattern repeats the same group.
- A growing pattern increases by the same amount each step.
- Find the rule, then continue the pattern.
🟢Number Patterns & Rules
In a number pattern, look at the gap between numbers to find the rule. The rule can be add, subtract, or multiply.
- 3, 6, 9, 12 → rule is +3.
- 40, 35, 30, 25 → rule is −5.
- 1, 2, 4, 8 → rule is ×2 (doubling).
👀 See a worked example
Find the rule and next number: 2, 4, 6, 8, __
Rule is +2, so next is 10.
Find the next number: 1, 2, 4, 8, __
Rule is ×2 (double), so next is 16.
🤖 Vidi's Key Points
- Look at the gap between numbers to find the rule.
- Rules can be add, subtract or multiply.
- Apply the rule to find the next number.
