Word & Meaning Analogy
Word analogies test a semantic relationship: synonym, antonym, part-to-whole, worker-to-tool, animal-to-young, cause-and-effect, or thing-to-category. State the link as a short sentence and check which option fits the same sentence for the new word.
Say the relationship in a sentence
Turn the first pair into a sentence, then plug the third word into the same sentence. "Carpenter : Saw" → "a carpenter uses a saw", so "Tailor : ?" → "a tailor uses a ___" = scissors.
| Relationship | Example |
|---|---|
| Worker : tool | Carpenter : Saw |
| Animal : young | Cow : Calf |
| Part : whole | Petal : Flower |
| Synonym / Antonym | Big : Large / Hot : Cold |
| Worker : workplace | Doctor : Hospital |
