Venn Diagrams • Topic 2 of 4

Logical Venn (Items)

These name three or four items and ask for the matching figure. The skill is judging real-world containment and overlap. Watch for items that look related but are disjoint (e.g., 'Even numbers, Odd numbers, Numbers' → two separate inside one).

Judge by real-world meaning

Read each item literally and ask whether memberships can overlap. Common patterns SSC tests:

ItemsCorrect diagram
Apple, Fruit, Foodconcentric (Apple ⊂ Fruit ⊂ Food)
Even numbers, Prime numbers, NumbersEvens & Primes overlap only at 2, both inside Numbers
Vowels, Consonants, Letterstwo separate circles inside one
Doctor, Engineer, Humantwo separate circles inside Human
Teacher, Man, Playerthree overlapping circles
Trap. Categories that sound paired are often disjoint — Even vs Odd numbers never overlap, Men vs Women never overlap. Don't draw an overlap unless a single thing could really be in both.
