1Early calculating devices
Long before electronics, people built tools to calculate:

3The Input-Process-Output (IPO) cycle
Every computer works in the same basic way — the IPO cycle:
- Input — data goes in (you type or click).
- Process — the CPU works on the data following instructions.
- Output — the result comes out (on the screen or printer).
