Tables

A table lists exact values in rows and columns — the cleanest DI form because no reading-off-a-scale error is possible. Scan the row/column headers first so you know where each number lives, then answer with totals, averages, ratios or percentages. Watch the units stated in the caption.

1. A shop sold (in units) Mon 20, Tue 25, Wed 15, Thu 30, Fri 10. Total for the week?
20+25+15+30+10 = 100.
2. From the same data, the average daily sale?
100 / 5 = 20.
3. What percent of the week's sales happened on Thursday?
30/100 x 100 = 30%.
4. Ratio of Monday to Wednesday sales?
20:15 = 4:3.
