Cloze Test • Topic 1 of 4
Vocabulary Gaps
Some blanks need the word whose meaning fits the passage. Use the surrounding sentence for tone and look for collocations — words that naturally pair.
Collocations carry these gaps
| Verb | Goes with |
|---|---|
| make | a decision, progress, a mistake |
| do | homework, a favour, business |
| take | a risk, a breath, a decision (BrE) |
| pay | attention, a visit, respect |
Match the tone the passage sets. If a sentence is positive ("the news brought him great ___"), the filler must be positive (joy, not anger). Read the signal words around the blank.
